LANAP® can be used to treat virtually any condition that might otherwise be addressed with traditional Periodontal surgery.
Less discomfort and faster recovery than with traditional surgery - and LANAP® gives comparable, or better, results!
LANAP® is easy - there’s no cutting and no suturing.
LANAP® therapy often takes less time/fewer visits than traditional surgery.
Although we recommend a soft diet for a day or two, in most cases patients feel well enough to eat anything they want immediately following the procedure.
LANAP® is safe for patients with health concerns such as diabetes, HIV, hemophilia, or those taking medications such as Plavix or aspirin.
Patients who take Bisphosphonates medication (such as Fosamax) can delay or avoid tooth extractions because even teeth with a poor prognosis can benefit from this life-changing procedure
Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?
Gums that bleed after brushing or flossing can be a warning sign of gingivitis, an early stage of gum disease. Other symptoms of gingivitis include occasional swelling or itching of the gums, and bright red or purple gums.
Chronic gingivitis is a common condition that affects over 90% of the U.S. population. Although initially painless, gingivitis almost always leads to bad breath, and if left untreated can cause loose teeth, periodontal disease and ultimately tooth loss.
Gingivitis can be treated by having a professional periodontal or LANAP™ PerioLase cleaning, followed by a strict oral hygiene regimen, including brushing, flossing and the use of anti-bacterial rinses.
Loose teeth can result from accidental trauma, excessive bite forces, inflammation of the gums, and excessive bone loss. Bite adjustment can reduce or eliminate loose teeth; a bite guard appliance can control grinding or clenching habits; and splinting teeth together can reduce their movement – but inflammation must be controlled or eliminated to create an environment that allows the teeth to tighten.
LANAP™ PerioLase treatment can eliminate bacterial infection and/or inflammation without pain or swelling, resulting in the potential tightening of loose teeth.
Failing Dental Implants
Failing dental implants can be attributed to excessive bite pressure or bacterial inflammation, known as peri-implantitis, which causes implants to shift or become loose due to loss of bone surrounding the implant. Peri-implantitis is often accompanied by gum swelling, deep spaces between the gum tissue and the implant (known as periodontal pockets), bad breath and pain upon eating.
Failing implants can be treated with traditional periodontal surgery to extend the life of the impant, or with the less-invasive LANAP™ PerioLase treatment. PerioLase uses energy to kill bacteria via evaporation, allowing bone to regenerate and gum tissue to re-attach to the implant. PerioLase treatment results in less recession of the gum tissue, for a superior aesthetic result. There is also little or no discomfort, swelling or discoloration, and faster healing time.
Halitosis, also known as bad breath, is a common problem that can have a wide variety of causes, from dry mouth and eating specific foods to poor dental hygiene, bacterial gum infections, sinus infections and cavities. More serious causes of halitosis include stomach or blood disorders, cancer, diabetes, liver and lung diseases. Due to the varying nature of possible causes, individual halitosis problems should be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The Periodontal specialists at ZCY can determine whether you are a good candidate for LANAP™ PerioLase treatment for bad breath due to poor dental hygiene and/or bacterial gum infections, like gingivitis or periodontitis. An alternative to traditional gum surgery, LANAP™ uses infrared light to eliminate diseased gum tissue, promote healthy tissue growth, and increase bone density. Recovery time is as short as a few hours, so you can often return to work on the same day.
Mouth Ulcers & Facial Herpes
Aphthous stomatitis (mouth ulcers) is a painful bacterial disease that breaks down of the skin in the floor of the mouth, cheek, or lips. LANAP™ PerioLase therapy can provide immediate relief of pain related to mouth ulcers, forming a thin protective film over the ulcerated area that that allows it to heal without intense pain.
Herpes is a viral infection that can cause sores on the lips that can be painful, and usually last from 7-10 days. LANAP™ PerioLase treatment can provide immediate pain relief and shorten the healing time of herpes sores. This treatment is effective without the laser touching any skin surface.
Facial & Mouth Due to Injury
Parathesia, or numbness of the mouth, can result from nerve trauma and take weeks, months or even years to go away. LANAP™ PerioLase treatment has been shown to reverse numbness or reduce the length of time for recovery of feeling. It is thought that the laser’s energy unclogs blocked blood vessels, allowing healing to occur.
