Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure - a.k.a. LANAP®
A laser alternative to traditional periodontal surgery, with • Virtually No Pain • No Stitches • No Downtime
Laser Periodontal Therapy, or LANAP®, is a laser-based technique for the treatment of periodontal disease using the PerioLase laser. Drs. Robert M. Zupnik, Charles C. Chen, Edward Zupnik, and C. Alec Yen are Certified Dental Laser Specialists with the Institute of Advanced Laser Periodontal (LANAP®) Laser Assisted Procedure. Dr. Robert M. Zupnik of ZCZ Perio is one of the DC Metro area's first Periodontists to offer LANAP® therapy as an alternative to traditional periodontal surgery for the treatment of gingivitis, periodontitis, and other periodontal issues.
LANAP® is FDA-approved for the treatment of gum disease.
How does the LANAP® PerioLase treatment work?
Tartar is removed from the root surface of the tooth using an ultrasonic scaler and small instruments. Next, a small amount of light energy from the PerioLase laser is directed through a tiny fiber gently placed between the gum and tooth to remove a tiny amount of diseased gum tissue, reducing the bacteria associated with gum disease. After the area is thoroughly cleaned, the body will heal the area naturally. Click here for more on the 6 Steps of LANAP
How many treatments does it take?
This depends on the severity of your periodontal disease. In some cases one LANAP® session with two follow-up visits may be sufficient; more visits would be required for more severe cases. After an initial consultation and examination, your doctor will develop a treatment plan that includes your estimated treatment time.
Does LANAP® cost more than traditional gum surgery?
Factors that may impact your cost include the severity of your periodontal disease, and how many teeth are involved.
Many insurance plans pay only for a portion of this treatment. Please discuss your payment options with our dental office personnel.
